Week Two Reflection

This week in Tāwhirimātea, we have been getting to know each other by getting into groups for the fire drill.

Someone new I have met is Cadi.

The RISE value I have shown this week is Resilience by sitting on the mat.

Three of the rules in Tāwhirimātea are:

1, no running inside

2.no yelling

3.no screaming

I am looking forward to make new friends.

Neurographic Art

This is Neurographic Art. It is a process proven with science to calm your mind.

I liked when we drew the lines and made round corners.

I did not like painting it with the water colours, it was hard to blend the colours.

My Action: Protecting Plants

I am protecting plants at school by making fences around important trees and plants. Make signs to tell the children  to stop walking, jumping and pulling the plants, leaves and branches off the trees.

Rapaki Marae

From Thursday 22nd – Friday 23rd August we stayed at Rāpaki Marae. When we arrived we were formally welcomed in a ceremony called a pōwhiri.

Matua Issac talked about the special artworks, carvings and tukutuku panels in the wharenui. He also told us about how to be respectful of marae tikanga, like not wearing shoes or taking food into the wharenui.

We did lots of activities such as walking to the beach, weaving, drawing the ancestors on the pou, making rākau and singing waiata. My favourite part of the trip was finding the sea glass on the beach.                                                                  The RISE value I showed the most was resilience because sometimes I had a headache.

I would like to go back to the marae because I loved the beach.
